Our third Policy Learning Lab explores the international dimension of European Universities Alliances

The session analysed how European Universities alliances can strengthen the EU’s international dimension through values-based cooperation and strategic global partnerships. Our previous PLL, 'Securing the Future', took place in April and addressed the topic of sustainable funding in EUAs.

Our Forum Board Highlights the Growing Impact of European Universities Alliances at Cyprus High-Level Meeting

Representing the FOREU4ALL community, Fernando Pérez Peña, SEA-EU General Director and Vice-Chair of the FOREU4ALL Forum Board, alongside members of the Board Michal Karpisek (Secretary General of the E³UDRES² Alliance) and Naveed Syed (Secretary General of the ENHANCE Alliance), took part in the session “European Universities Alliances: Beating Heart of Europe’s Future”, reinforcing the collective visibility and strategic relevance of alliances within the European Higher Education Area.

Community of Practice

Representatives of higher education stakeholder organisations and members of the FOREU4ALL External Advisory Board recently gathered in Brussels for the third FOREU4ALL Stakeholder Meeting and External Advisory Board Meeting. Chaired by Beatrix Busse, alongside Emily Helmeid and Olga Wessels, participants discussed recent achievements, future plans, and policy developments affecting the European Universities initiative, and explored how alliances can serve as role models for the wider higher education sector through collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the dissemination of good practices. 

The FOREU4ALL Topical Groups Mobility and Upscaling Internationalisation and Innovation in Education have jointly organised a webinar on Impactful Internationalisation through Virtual Exchange/COIL, exploring how they can contribute to the objectives of European Universities Alliances in terms of mobility (‘physical, virtual or blended’) and internationalisation.

Olga Wessels, FOREU4ALL Co-coordinator, joined the high-level event 'Connecting Policy and Practice: What’s Next for Higher Education in Erasmus+?', hosted by the EUF - European University Foundation in Brussels last May.

Federica Candelaresi and Giovanni Andriolo, together with Eddie Arriaga Flores and Giulia Rebecca Conte, joined the 5th edition of the European Student Assembly (ESA) as representatives of FOREU4ALL, within the framework of the EUC Voices Erasmus+ project. 

FOREU4ALL representatives took part in the European Universities Coordinators’ Working Retreat in Brussels last April, organised by the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) of the European Commission. The strategic expertise of the FOREU4ALL topical groups experts played a crucial role in shaping the event, as their engagement was instrumental in the design of the breakout sessions.

FOREU4ALL Vice-Chair Emily Helmeid took part in the 4th Franco-Dutch Strategic Dialogue in The Hague, a high-level discussion on the future of alliances and the added value of Franco-Dutch collaboration in higher education. Forum Member Mattia Belotti also participated in the latest EADTU conference on joint degrees, AI in education and leadership.

Agenda

Alliances' representatives are soon heading to Maynooth, Ireland, for the IV EUI Forum taking place on 9–10 July. They will also be meeting in Glasgow for the International Education Conference EAIE 2026, taking place 08–11 September.
